Common Questions

When should we start the design process?

We recommend reaching out 3 to 6 months before your event. This is the perfect window to collaborate on the details, finalize your custom layout, and ensure we have plenty of time to build any bespoke features or order special inventory for your date.

Do you have a minimum investment requirement?

Yes. To ensure every project receives our team’s full attention and care, we require a $1,500 minimum investment for new event designs, or a reduced $1,250 minimum for our exclusive Pittsburgh partner venues where we already have established design setups and equipment infrastructure in place. Tell us where you’re celebrating, and we can easily find the best path forward for your vision!

I have a planner—do I still need ILLUME?

Absolutely. Think of your planner as the director of the day and ILLUME as your design and production partner. While they manage the timeline, vendors, and overall logistics, we focus entirely on the physical space—handling the lighting, custom decor, and setups that bring the look together. Simply put, they manage the show and we build the stage, working hand-in-hand to make sure your event looks incredible and runs smoothly.

Can I just rent items without the design services?

To ensure everything looks exactly right, we don’t offer item-only or pick-up rentals. Many of our pieces require specialized transport and hands-on placement to look their best. Every project is a completely full-service experience, meaning our crew handles the delivery, professional setup, and final removal so you can relax and enjoy your day stress-free.

Have you worked at my venue before?

With over 1,000 Pittsburgh events under our belt, there’s a very high chance we have. We know the layouts, loading logistics, and unique setups of the city’s favorite venues inside and out. This deep local experience allows us to design perfectly for your specific room, ensuring a smooth, stress-free setup day with zero on-site guesswork.

I have a totally unique idea. Can you create it?

That is exactly why we exist. We aren’t a typical rental company with a static catalog; we are a hands-on design studio. If your vision requires a custom-built installation, site-specific lighting, or a one-of-a-kind feature, our team has the creative and practical tools to build it from the ground up to fit your venue perfectly.
